God Why Have You Forsaken Me? It's Not What You Think!

On Good Friday as Jesus was dying on the cross, he cried, "My God My God Why have you forsaken me?

It wasn't doubt, It wasn't weakness. Jesus was connecting the dots for us!

Jesus is the Son of God. He saw the whole picture. He knew how his death on the cross not only atoned for all the sin in our world, but that His resurrection would connect Heaven to earth. It would open the door for his Holy Spirit to fill the hearts of believers!

Jesus wasn't questioning God. He was quoting Psalm 22 that every Jewish child would have memorized in school. It was a prophecy from King David about the coming Messiah written almost 1000 years before Jesus was born.

King David wrote: “God, Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning? O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, and by night, but I find no rest.” “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? All who see me mock me; they make mouths at me; they wag their heads..."

Jesus was connecting the dots for the Jewish people who we're watching his death wondering why?

If you want some encouragement today, take 3 minutes and read through all of Psalm 22 here

You see Psalm 22 also says: “They have pierced my hands and feet....they divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.” These are all things the Roman guards did to Jesus before his crucifixion.

Psalm 22 was actually a prophecy about the coming Messiah for the Hebrew people and that's where Jesus was pointing everyone there watching....
